L'autore

If there was anyone you had to choose to represent an active older person, Professor Risteárd Mulcahy would be the perfect choice. At the age of 81 he still works two days a week, cycles to his clinic and ran his first marathon at the age of sixty-one. While head of the cardiology department in St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin, he was one of the very first joggers on our 1970s streets. He remains a keen walker who fits in 18 holes of golf, two or three times a week. Professor Mulcahy set up the Irish Heart Foundation and is one of the strongest advocates for improved health promotion, better preventive care and the more effective control of cigarette smoking. Truly a man who practises what he preaches, he continues to be active in campaigning on public health issues. Reflective and provocative, he is unafraid to speak out on what he sees as the underlying causes of the ills affecting our society, both physically and spiritually. In print and in conversation, he addresses a broad range of issues with honesty, consideration and self-deprecating anecdotes.
