Riassunto

Ben and the Box of Surprises is an illustrated children's book and animated DVD aimed at 3-7 year olds. It is episode 3 of The Adventures of Ben Labra d'Ollie; a series of stories that feature the family pet dog, a big black Labrador called Ben. He is gentle and funny and very keen to have a quiet life. All Ben wants is to find a new ball to play with. Just one tiny peek inside a mysterious box can't do any harm...but the lid flies off and the secret is out. How will Ben and his friend Special Rat cover their tracks? The ten-minute DVD tells the delightful story in photo-realistic animation, which makes the characters come to life in the familiar surroundings of a family garden. The DVD features a specially-commissioned score by American composer Jean Hasse. In Ben and the Box of Surprises, author and illustrator have combined a beautifully illustrated book and high quality animation to make a unique children's entertainment. The intelligent story is well-paced with moments of drama and excitement interspersed with humour and wit. They have created a setting for the action that conveys warmth and safety and a feeling that everything really will be all right in the end. 'Christine Pritchard has a chatty, accessible writing style which children will love.' Primary Times

Recensione

Bouncing back for more fun and adventure, Ben the Labrador-Collie is up to his old tricks again. In this latest offering by Christine Pritchard he is looking for somewhere quiet to have a nap but, when he finds a mysterious box in the shed, he can't help peeping inside. He gets drawn into an adventure with a tin of paint, helium balloons and his fried Special Rat. Stuffed full of amazing photographic-style illustrations by Peter Froome, this engaging story sets kids' imaginations alight, perhaps wondering what their own dog might be getting up to when no one's looking. The book also comes with a 10 minute DVD which brings the story alive on the screen, perfect for putting on before bedtime or watching for a break during the day. --Primary Times
