One prominent critic has called it "one of the greatest books of art instruction ever written. No other book comes close to being as detailed and as comprehensive.” The Dictionary of Human Form is designed to help art students understand the structural organization of the body. Nothing like the Dictionary has ever been published before. With over 800 explanatory pages and more than 2,500 illustrations, the Dictionary develops a structural way of seeing and understanding the body. The author, Ted Seth Jacobs, was teaching for more than 70 years, starting as an occasional substitute for his teacher at the Art Students League of New York. After studying there, he continued teaching privately; later at the Art Students League, New York Academy and as a visiting instructor throughout the United States. In 1987, he opened his own school in France where he taught 6 selected students each year until 2018. Ted Seth Jacobs died in 2019 at age 91, having taught some of the the most successful and influential artists and teachers of several generations.
