High in a remote Rocky Mountain wilderness, in the maze of forested canyons, cascading streams and alpine lakes, lives a young brook trout named Alexander. After a chain of unfortunate events Alexander is lucky to be alive. His world is turned upside down and he finds himself stranded on the wrong side of the Continental Divide. Alexander is just a few miles from his home, but he discovers his only way back to his family and friends is an extremely dangerous 10-thousand-mile, all-but-impossible journey, through America's river ways and giant oceans. There is danger and calamity around every bend and he meets a number of colorful characters. The book is filled with lavish, exciting, colorful illustrations.

Before writing children's books, Steve Richardson has had a successful career in scenic, architectural and portrait photography, published hundreds of times in national calendars, on post-cards and in numerous magazines. He has also published scenic calendars and other products through his business, Richardson Photo/Graphics. Richardson’s work has been used by various calendar companies and other sources. His picture book Billy's Mountain was published in 2006 and two chapter books, Alexander Trout's Amazing Adventure and The Adventure of Lavender Blue, are both in the process of being illustrated and published.
