In The Code of Authentic Living: Cellular Wisdom, King reveals how fundamental truths for living an authentic, fulfilling life are coded in the elegantly complex dance of chemical and energetic interactions within and between our cells. After more than twenty years running a research lab at Tufts University, neuroscientist Joan C. King realized that what she had been studying under a microscope all those years had significance beyond human physiology. Much more than just a temple of science, her lab, she discovered, was a temple of the human spirit as well. With more than thirty meditative and thought-provoking exercises, this book shows us how to interpret the truths that our bodies teach and how to apply them to our lives. King helps you to explore the landscape within, working to identify your values and articulate them for improving human relationships and fostering more harmonious communities, as demonstrated within the relationships and communities of our cells. Here is the genius of Joan s vision, in this, her foundational book, tapping into the highest expression of the human consciousness genius that remarkable combination of intellectual and personal qualities that allows a person to see beyond the obvious, to sense connections that escape narrower vision, and to express what they see in a way that ignites others and catalyzes change.
Joan C. King received her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Dominican College, her M.S. degree from the University of New Orleans, and her Ph.D. in Neurosciences and Psychology from Tulane University. Dr. King joined the faculty at Tufts University School of Medicine in 1979. During her twenty years at Tufts, she directed the Medical Neurosciences course and a research lab that focused on hypothalamic neurons that synthesize a peptide critical to reproduction. A recipient of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Career Development Award, Dr. King's research was funded both by NIH and the National Science Foundation (NSF). As Chair of the Department of Anatomy and Cellular Biology, she created and financed a multimedia resource center. Dr. King, together with a group of researchers, created and functioned as director of the NIH-funded Center of Excellence for Research in Reproduction. At the national level, Dr. King chaired the Population Research Committee, an advisory committee for the National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development, and several Committees of Visitors to NSF. Currently, Professor Emerita Tufts University School of Medicine, Dr. King serves as Past President of Women in Neurosciences and on the Training and Development workgroup for the Society for Neuroscience Strategic Plan.Review:
Reading Cellular Wisdom is an adventure of Mind and Soul: the laboratory of the body seen as the temple of the spirit. Few scientists living could acheive what Dr. Joan King has done here. --Jean Houston Ph. D
