'Aside from the satisfaction players will get from duet playing, they are a very powerful teaching tool! Students and even professionals can gain tremendous benefit from the demand in duet playing for synchronization, intonation, blending dynamically and alternately following and leading. These aretime-honored essential qualities for musical artistry. This great attention to detail in its most transparent musical situation, i.e. two-part writing or duets can accelerate the learning process and even afford the players access to musical epiphanies that can transform their performances in larger orchestral situations.

A metronome or click track are only tools to help synchronizeand guide you to play with 'good time' which simply means not speeding up or slowing down, playing behind or ahead of the beat unintentionally. (Of course, sometimes it may be okay to do either.) But what if you want to perform or record these duets with the play-along tracks? You probably would prefer not tohave a click throughout, right?

Enter CD-B, the click-less versions of these Bach duets! The first twenty-five tracks include tuning notes followed bythe two play-along versions of each duet with a click count off and no click track. Since they are derived from my recordings with a click track they will still be metronomic but try to apply as much expression and cantabile as you can. Tracks 25 through 36 are excerpts from the eleven duets where I demonstrate expressive or non-metronomic time which, of course, should never be misconstrued as 'bad time' but rather allowing a certain amount of freedom within a given beats per minute (BPM) marking that still has the overall effect of a 'steady pulse'.'- Bob Zottola
