This is Javier's second self published book in the last 4 years. The first volume of "A Reason to Smile!" took 2.5 years to conceptualize and create, and this new book, Volume 2, took only a year and a half. While the first book is a much younger read, volume 2 is a much more intense read in which we get to actually read the voice of the characters, as well as meeting many more. Javier transitioned from being a comic illustrator to an author as well in 2012 and has since sold over a thousand copies of his first book! More plans are in the work to create a chapter book along with a beginning readers book.

Creating Luiza Brillante's look was an accomplishment that Javier is quite proud of, and drawing her in a mix of a graphic novel and a picture book was the very first book for him. He is always trying to grow in all that he does and that can be seen in Volume 2. He used larger pictures to help push the narrative within the first book, but with the growth of his artistic skills, he was able to tell the story visually much more concisely and with more detail and energy. The envronments are very much recognizable places in New York City and the body language and facial expressions are more visually present than in the previous book. The year between books has helped him be a better artist and you can see that all in the newest volume of "A Reason to Smile!"
