In 2014, Nick released his debut collection of poetry, Perception of Light, following this during the next year with Subdued Anthems and Strange Country, two volumes of earlier material. The Beautiful Place develops the personal narratives that commenced with Perception of Light while addressing wider concerns suggested in travel east and west –continuity and impermanence, the significance or otherwise of the individual and the opposing prospects of extinction and survival. Conscious, always, of “work” and “the thousand mundane tyrannies/that rule the home”, this collection embraces the “solace” of “the beautiful” and its manifestation in different contexts, including that of “the ordinary yet miraculous”.
