“Pandi’s Mum gave Pandi a magic apple seed and asked him to plant an apple tree in their bamboo forest while she was away for a few days. Though Pandi did not believe that it would work, he did as he was told. To Pandi’s surprise, the apple seed really grew into a beautiful apple tree after a few days. He was very excited and called the tree Pingping. He loved Pingping very much. This upset the bamboos in the forest so they started saying harsh things to Pingping. Poor Pingping felt lonely and sad. Fortunately, after the birds had eaten Pingping’s apples, the seeds dropped down into the soil and grew into many apple trees which kept her company and made her very happy. The next day, two men came into the forest and wanted to cut down the bamboos, but the bamboos managed to avoid being destroyed because of the apple trees being there. So the bamboos and the apples trees became good friends. Afterwards the soil in the forest became even more fertile! ” This book is written in simplified Chinese with Mandarin Pinyin above the Chinese characters and its English translation below. There are also some revision activities, vocabulary tables (with English Translations) and a table of Chinese Pinyin Basic Sounds and Four Tones to help children learn Mandarin Chinese.

L'autore

Yuet-wan Lo originates from Hong Kong. She graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and later moved to the United Kingdom in 1996. She taught Chinese and Social Science subjects in schools in Hong Kong for 10 years. During this time, she started writing for publication and won several awards in writing competitions in Hong Kong, including the first runner-up in The Sixth Creative Writing Competition (Children Story) by Sun Ya Publications Limited and the 65th Anniversary Writing Competition (Womenˇs Group-Essay) by Wah Kiu Daily News in 1990. She also won a few writing merit awards in 1994 and 1995. She currently works as a professional translator and interpreter in the U.K. 原居于香港,毕业于香港中文大学,于1996年移居英国。她在香港时任教中文和社会科学科十年,业余从事文学创作,在多项的文学创作比赛中获奖,包括1990年的新雅文化出版社第六届文学创作比赛(儿童故事组)亚军及华侨日报六十五周年报庆创作比赛(妇女散文组)亚军,并于1994至1995年间获得其他创作比赛的优异奖。 现职为英国的专业翻译和传译员。
