In his firsthand account of life in a refugee camp, Charles Deogratias gives us a window into the daily struggles facing refugees around the world today.
Deogratias was born and raised a refugee child in Tanzania, where his parents fled to escape the ethnic violence erupting in Rwanda in 1959. He spent his childhood fighting for survival in a dangerous jungle without access to medicine, clothes, sufficient food, or clean water. Yet, in his frank and honest descriptions of adversity, Deogratias still found humour and compassion.
In this memoir, Deogratias chronicles his amazing and unexpected journey from jungle to North America where, against all odds, he received his education and became a successful military Chaplain.
Chaplain Deogratias says that his greatest privilege has and still is, to support and faithfully witness of God’s power in the world to those who would defend our freedom.
