Here, in Dr. Wu’s second book in his newly-created genre of ‘clinical lab tales’ non-fiction, he expands the scope to include a wider variety of testing situations. The stories are gripping, and address an important need. There is a defacto veil of mutual ignorance between the vast majority of the public, who all too frequently know virtually nothing about the ‘blood tests’ their doctors order on them, and the countless laboratory workers involved behind the scenes in supporting their care, who (due to privacy laws and other valid reasons) almost never know much or anything about the lives of those they serve. This book provides both groups with a sample of what it would be like to have this veil lifted. On behalf of both groups, thank you once again, Dr. Wu!
Keep them coming.......I loved the first book and I was not disappointed with this one! Dr. Wu has a great writing style, the stories just flow. These cases certainly awaken the lay person to the fact they should be more informed and take an active part in understanding the tests ordered by doctors and the implications of the results. Knowledge is power and in the long run it will make us a better patient. I will be waiting for the next book. S
This book of true medical short stories is fascinating. It kept my interest one after another. I had no intention of reading them all in one day , when I started. But each one was suspenseful, short and to the point; many , many times with surprise endings. I believe in recommending it so enthusiastically that I have purchased two extras as loners for friends! Alan Wu definitely is among my top authors since this book.
Well this is another of Alan Wu's tour de force treatises - demystifying what happens in a Clinical Laboratory and downstream badness for patients when things don't go as expected. Entertaining and fascinating concise stories, blended with Alan's unique and lovable "corny" humor. Alan expands his use of "alternate universe" outcomes - quite enlightening as to his command of world history and linkage to clinical chemistry. A great addition to his repertoire and a wonderful read. get it!
