A. C. Seward (1863–1941) was an eminent English botanist and geologist. In these volumes, published between 1898 and 1919, Seward synthesised and revised the existing research on palaeobotany and included new material. Volume 4 contains systematic descriptions of fossil ginkgoales and coniferales.
