This was an important fact in the eyes of the Evangelists. For while they saw that God had sent John for this purpose, and that all the Jews "held John to be a prophet" (Matt. xxi. 26), and confessed that he came " in the way of righteousness " (Matt. xxi. 32), his testimony to Jesus was beyond question, and went far to establish the fact, that He was the!
