Some of the activities are undertaken on request of the Governor, Council, or Legislature, and other activities are conducted on the initiative of the Supervisor..." The supervisory duties of the office cover such matters as departmental purchasing methods, the form and extent of departmental publications, and the preservation of state records. In addition to investigations of routine departmental administration, the office is charged with the study of broad administrative problems met with generally throughout the state service, such as the standardization of salaries, the establishment of a budget system, etc. The office also takes over from the Governor and Council the publication of the annual list of officials and employees.
