Interrogatives always precede the object to which they refer, or the verb by which they are governed. 12. An interrogative combined with a personal pronoun asks a question, without the aid of the substantive verb; as, an e an Jčar? h he the manķ VERBS. 1. A verb agrees with its nominative in number and person; as, do bhuail sc, he struck; do bhualadar, or do bhuail siad, they struck. 2. Verbs active govern the accusative case; as, buai lim thu, I beatjou; do bhuail lu an Jear, you beat the man. 3. The nominative generally follows the verb; as, Ar ttus do chruthaidh Dia neamh agus titlamh, In the beginning God created heaven and earth. But in poetry and in old MSS. particularly the Annals, the nominative frequently precedes the verb; as, Dētnhnall mac Ciolla Josa ruaidh ui Raghallaigh do ég, Donald, Son of red GiollaJosa, (the servant of Jesus,) O'Reilly died.
