As, however, it is one of much importance, it is intended to add some observations;--first, on the means of determining the chronology of the early history, of the world; and second, on the principal and most important of the different epochs and eras, in reference to which dates have, at various times, been computed, with the means of reducing the computations made according to these different systems to one definite chronology. It is sufficiently obvious that any particular point, or points, in the lapse of time, can only be marked by reference to some one other particular point which is fixed and known. In all histories, therefore, the precise date of each event can be stated only with reference to some other event, the the Edwards, wa; ever considered as king de facto, until he had been recognized and elected by the people, notwithstanding the obsequious decision of the judges in the reign of Queen Elizabeth. Now, these interesting facts can only be established by reference to an accurate chronology;--by ascertaining the exact date when the first regal acts took place, and the date whence the year of the reign of the king was considered to commence.
