Riassunto

""A Plea For Pure Science"" is a book written by Alexander William Williamson, and it is the inaugural lecture delivered at the opening of the Faculty of Science in University College, London in 1870. The book is a passionate call for the pursuit of pure science, which Williamson believes is essential for the progress of human knowledge and understanding. In his lecture, he argues that science should be pursued for its own sake, rather than for any practical or commercial applications. He also emphasizes the importance of education and research in the sciences, and the need for universities to provide the necessary resources and support for scientific inquiry. The book is a valuable historical document that provides insight into the development of scientific education in the 19th century, and it remains relevant today as a reminder of the importance of pure scientific research for the advancement of human knowledge and understanding. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
