Leaden cisterns, however, must not be cleaned in this way, as the incrustation formed on them is a protection against the unhealthy action of the lead on the water. They should be kept covered, as rats, mice, etc., sometimes fall into cisterns, and decomposing, pollute the water. Slate cisterns are always to be preferred to leaden ones. windows. Windows. In stormy weather, especially when in a house by the sea-side, the rain penetrates through the window frames, deluging the rooms. This is always to be obviated by pressing thin layers of tow with a knife into the apertures, and the same tow when dried can be used over and over again. A sand bag is the next best thing. Window Cord for blinds should be bought of the best quality, and at a good shop. Two sorts are sold; the cheaper tightens and slackens with any change of weather, and the noise made in drawing up the blind is felt to be most unpleasant if any one is ill; and when the cord has become loose, the blind sometimes falls hurriedly down. Excellent cord and window-sash lines are sold at the Blind School, St. George's Fields, Southward Wasps. A wasp can be destroyed at once by having a few drops of salad oil poured on it. This may be done from a quill. In seasons when wasps are very numerous, bottles half-filled with beer and sugar, and a little oil on the top, if hung in the trees of an orchard, will attract them from the fruit. They will be found dead in great numbers.
