The central character, of course, is Lenny, who, despite his great aspirational energy, turns down record deal after record deal until he finds his true voice.

David Ritz is only person to win the Gleason Music Book Award four times. His list of collaborators include Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Smokey Robinson and Don Rickles. He also cowrote the song “Sexual Healing" with Marvin Gaye.
