Excerpt from Personality: The Beginning and End of Metaphysics and a Necessary Assumption in All Positive Philosophy
To those who think thus, metaphysics is of course a remnant of barbarism, only a little re moved from the fetishism that flourished in the infancy Of the race; or, at the best, it is but a puerile amusement which, when one becomes a man - that is to say a Positivist - ought to be put away. Now it is the purpose of the present essay to offer some suggestions tending to show that this estimate of metaphysics is incorrect, - that the Posi tivists themselves are but metaphysicians in dis guise, - that pure Phenomenalism, without some admixture of metaphysical elements, is an unthink able absurdity, - and that, from the works of the most violently anti-metaphysical writers, it is easy to extract the elements of a metaphysical system.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book sets out on a philosophical journey, challenging the notions that the human ego is a mere byproduct of its environment, and that consciousness is nothing more than the sum of its transient experiences. The author deftly dismantles these claims by presenting a cogent argument for the existence of a permanent, metaphysical ego. Through careful analysis of remembrance, the author demonstrates the impossibility of reducing memory to a fleeting sequence of mental events and sensations. This central thesis, radical in the context of recent intellectual history, is not merely theoretical. The book also explores how our denial of the ego is reflected in modern philosophy and the broader culture. The book concludes by demonstrating how a true understanding of the ego reveals a profound meaning and purpose in human existence, offering fresh perspectives on metaphysics and the nature of the human experience itself.
