Excerpt from Selected Writings of Isaac M. Wise: With a Biography
It was hoped that the book would appear on the day of the celebration, March 14, 1899. A number of untoward circumstances, however, prevented this. In the meantime, the great leader has been called to his eternal rest. This volume, therefore, assumes the form of a tribute to the memory of their beloved teacher from his disciples, the gradu ates oi the College.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a fascinating glimpse into the life and work of a pivotal figure in American Jewish history. The author traces the journey of a young, brilliant rabbi from his humble origins in Bohemia to his arrival in the United States in the mid-19th century. As a newly arrived immigrant, he navigated the complexities of American Jewish life, marked by a growing German Jewish population, a lack of communal institutions, and limited opportunities for religious education. The author vividly portrays the challenges faced by the rabbi, who sought to reform Judaism in America, grappling with entrenched traditions and the opposition of conservative elements. He champions the need for a unified prayer book, a more accessible form of Judaism, and a greater focus on education. The author also explores the rabbi's dedication to promoting Jewish identity and combating antisemitism, especially through his brave confrontation with conversionists. This book provides a unique historical perspective on the development of American Judaism, offering insights into the struggles and triumphs of one man's dedication to shaping a more inclusive and vibrant religious landscape.
