Excerpt from The Tragedy of Titus Andronicus
IT is barely possible that Tim; Andra/11°01; was a very early work of Shakespeare, but personally I be lieve, with the great majority of editors and critics, that it was an old anonymous play which he slightly retouched in the 'prentice period of his career. I nevertheless allow the advocates of its authenticity their full say in its behalf (in the Introduction), and leave readers and students to decide for themselves, if they can, how much of it is Shakespeare's.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book, a historical tragedy, is set in ancient Rome under the reign of the newly crowned Emperor Saturninus, and is part of a series of Roman plays written by the author. The action centers on Titus Andronicus, a loyal Roman general whose celebratory return from war is met with tragedy and injustice. A struggle for power ensues as Saturninus, consumed by ambition and manipulation, alongside those seeking revenge, engage in a cycle of violence and moral decay. Themes of justice, revenge, and the destructive nature of unchecked ambition are explored, culminating in a bloody climax that reflects the volatility and chaos of the era. This book offers valuable insights into the complexities of human nature, the fragility of power, and the enduring consequences of injustice. Its exploration of political strife and the struggle for justice remains thought-provoking and relevant today.
