Sinossi

Excerpt from Wordsworth's French Daughter: The Story of Her Birth, With the Certificates of Her Baptism and Marriage

Crabb Robinson's Diary fills numerous closely-written little volumes, now pre served in Dr. Williams's Library, in Lon don. Only about one-eighth of their con tents has been printed, and I was court eously allowed to examine the manuscript originals at my leisure in 1915. Among the unpublished parts of it I found sev eral references to Monsieur and Madame Beaudoin and Madame Vallon, and abundant proof that they and their Eng lish visitors were on terms of intimacy.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book presents an intriguing historical account of a little-known chapter in the life of William Wordsworth, one of England's most renowned Romantic poets. It unravels the mystery surrounding his secret affair in France during the tumultuous period of the French Revolution. Through extensive research and analysis of previously unpublished letters and documents, the author reveals the story of Annette Vallon, a French woman with whom Wordsworth had a daughter, Caroline. Despite the obstacles posed by societal norms and the ongoing war between England and France, Wordsworth maintained a connection with Annette and Caroline, even going so far as to publicly acknowledge his daughter's existence and provide for her well-being. The book explores the complexities of Wordsworth's character, his struggle to reconcile his personal life with his public image, and the profound impact this secret had on his poetry. It delves into the themes of love, duty, and family, shedding light on the often-contradictory nature of human relationships. Ultimately, this captivating account illuminates Wordsworth's journey as a man and an artist, offering a fresh perspective on his life and work.
