The demand for a Second Edition of this book came upon me a year ago, much sooner than I expected it. As my life is no longer that of a student, but is fully occupied by engineering work, time for writing has been scarce, and this book has been long out of print. Now that it is ready for the press, I can only, for the same reason, bespeak indulgence for it.
