Excerpt from Poems: From the German of Ferdinand Freiligrath
As to my own translations included in this volume, two of which, (the only ones printed up to this time), have formerly ap peared in the Atfiezzazum, it is not without diffidence that I place them at the side of those of so many eminent interpreters. All I can say in favour of these attempts, is, that I have executed them to the best of my ability, and with the earnest desire to do justice to my father's creations. I submit them to the indulgence of the public.
