Excerpt from Daisy: The Autobiography of a Cat
This little story of one cat's life has been written during the intervals of a long and painful illness, when I missed the love and sympathy of my little four-footed friend of eighteen years, now, alas! Noth ing but a memory. Indeed, so vividly did his spirit speak to me, that I readily acknowledge him the author of this book, being myself his amanuensis.
From my earliest childhood the love of animals, particularly cats, has been inherent with me. One tale of cruelty, heard by me when a child, distressed me and made me ill, and nightly the panorama of the disgusting crime would haunt my pillow. But I never regret the suffering it caused me, for it taught me my duty to our dumb friends so dependent on us.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is an autobiography from a cat's viewpoint, offering a unique perspective on the human experience. Set in the Victorian era, the author explores themes of animal welfare, the folly of war, and the value of kindness. Beginning with the story of her mother, a stray who escaped a life of abuse, the author traces her privileged life in a loving, intellectual household. Though grateful for her comfortable existence, she often contemplates the suffering of less fortunate animals and grapples with her own feline nature. Through anecdotes about her interactions with humans and other animals, the author argues for the inherent intelligence and emotional capacity of cats. She challenges prevalent attitudes of neglect and cruelty, urging readers to treat all creatures with compassion. Witty, thought-provoking, and heartwarming, this book is a testament to the special bond between humans and animals and will appeal to cat lovers and animal advocates alike.
