Excerpt from The Philosophy of Language: Comprising Universal Grammar, or the Pure Science of Language; And Glossology, or the Historical Relations of Languages

Recognized the Praeco, to whose most bitter voice (as Cicero says) the goods of the great Pompey were subjected sub basta. Many other such investigations kept alive, amidst the more serious occupations of the law, his regard for the study of language and it was under these circumstances that he was applied to for that treatise on Grammar which appeared in the Encyclopedia Metr'opolitana. A few years afterwards he was raised to the high station of Chief Justice of Malta; the arduous duties of which office absorbed, for many years, nearly the whole of his time. At length, in 1839, he was relieved from that important charge, and left to close a long life in the atz'um cum dignitate which he still enjoys.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the fundamental principles of language, delving into the very essence of how human beings communicate. The author takes a unique approach, examining language not just as a collection of words and rules, but as a reflection of the human mind itself. Tracing the roots of language to the faculties of the intellect and will, the book delves into the inner workings of human thought. It examines how we form conceptions, make assertions, and draw conclusions, revealing the inherent logic and structure that underlies our ability to communicate. The author then explores how these mental processes manifest in different parts of speech, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. The book's exploration of language as a reflection of the human mind provides a fascinating look at the complex and interconnected nature of thought and expression. The author's insightful analysis of the underlying principles of language offers a fresh perspective on this timeless subject. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
