Sinossi

Excerpt from Trees and Tree Drawing

The student Who would become a figure painter goes through a course Of drawing from the life and devotes considerable time to the study of anatomy. The young landscape painter is apt to confine his studies, if he make any at all, to effects of light and colour and notes of composition, The anatomy and construction of the component parts of his subjects are Often not seriously considered. He too Often forgets that buildings and trees and rocks are formed upon fixed principles and governed by set laws in their relationship to each other. In almost all picture exhibitions examples may be found Of houses of impossible architectural construction, rocks foreign to their surroundings, and trees which are unrecognizable, or growing under unnatural conditions. The figure painter knows that inaccuracies in drawing will be readily discovered and condemned the landscape painter is aware that a general ignorance of tree forms has hitherto permitted ill - drawn landscapes to pass muster. The former has brought the study of anatomy to his aid to the latter it is becoming more and more necessary to derive assistance from architecture, geology, and botany.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intricate world of trees, guiding aspiring artists in accurately capturing their essence on paper. The author emphasizes the significance of understanding tree anatomy, structure, and growth patterns, drawing parallels with the figure painter's study of human anatomy. Just as a figure painter must understand the underlying structure of the body to portray clothing convincingly, a landscape artist must grasp the intricacies of tree forms beneath the veil of leaves. Historically, tree representation in art often relied on conventional symbols and stylized techniques. However, a shift occurred in the nineteenth century, influenced by artists like Constable and the Pre-Raphaelite movement, along with advancements in botany. This book reflects this evolution, advocating for a more scientific and informed approach to tree drawing. The author stresses the importance of direct observation, urging artists to study trees in various seasons and environments. Detailed guidance is provided on drawing techniques, materials, and the specific characteristics of different tree species. This book equips artists with the knowledge and skills to move beyond generic representations and capture the individuality and beauty of each tree, fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Codice articolo 9781330641170_0
