Sinossi

Excerpt from The Defence of the Realme

The author of this treatise, which was written in ryg6, and is now printed for the first time, was Sir Henry Knyvett, of Charlton, near Malmesbury, Wiltshire. He was descended from a noble family of Buckenham, Norfolk, and his great uncle, Sir Edmund Knyvett, had been sergeant-porter to King Henry VIII. His life is not written in the Dictionary of National Biography, where, however, a full account is given of his brother Thomas, afterwards Lord Knyvett of Escrick, who took a prominent part in the exposure of the Gunpowder Plot.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a timely treatise on the military defense of the English realm against foreign invasion in the late 16th century. The author, an experienced military veteran, approaches the subject from a standpoint of national preparedness and citizen duty. He presents a detailed plan for organizing the country's manpower, with particular emphasis on the training and deployment of a standing army. The author argues that England's strength lies in its manpower and resources, but that these assets must be properly organized and deployed in order to be effective. He makes the case that a well-trained and well-equipped militia is the best defense against invasion, and he provides a detailed plan for the creation and maintenance of such a force. The book provides valuable insights into the military thinking of the Elizabethan era, and it offers a glimpse into the challenges and opportunities faced by England as it sought to secure its borders and maintain its independence. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
