Excerpt from A Digest of the Reported Cases Contained in the Michigan Reports, 1866
In the arrangement of a Digest of Decisions, it is always found that many things can be properly classed under several heads; and no work of the kind is complete that does not enable the person consulting it to find at least a reference to them under any one of such heads. This is usually accomplished, either, First, by repetition; or, Second, by refer ences under each head to the page or chapter where, under any other head, kindred matter is to he found. The first method would have made this work too voluminous and expensive to warrant its publica tion at the present time; and the second is usually found inconvenient and unsatisfactory, In the present publication repetition has generally been avoided; and instead of the references usually found at the con elusion of each subject, a very full table on contents is given, which, it is believed, will accomplish the purpose more completely, and prove a saving of time and labor.
For convenience of reference, the sections of the work are numbered consecutively from commencement to conclusion, and a complete table of cases is appended, which will enable the rulings in each to be traced in these pages.
