Excerpt from Milton's Arcades and Comus: With Introduction, Notes and Indexes
HE text of the poems included in this volume is substantially that of Professor Masson's Globe edition of Milton's Poetical Works, 1877. I have to thank Messrs Macmillan and Co. For their courtesy in allowing me to use this text. In common with all recent editors of Milton I am under great obligations to Professor Masson. School-editions of Camus and Arcade: I have avoided using. As some attention is paid in the notes to points of etymology, I may say that the authors from whom most of the information has been taken are Professor Skeat, Professor Earle, Dr Morris, and, for French words, Brachet. The New Englz's/z Dz'dz'onafy, too, has been consulted often. I have endeavoured to reproduce with correctness the views of the writers mentioned; and it need scarcely be added that responsibility for any errors that may be noticed rests with me.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book comprises two poetic dramas, 'Comus' and 'Arcades', written by the renowned English poet, John Milton, during his early career. Composed respectively in 1634 and 1633, these works showcase Milton's mastery of language, vivid imagery, and profound exploration of moral themes. 'Comus' is an enchanting tale of virtue triumphant over temptation, highlighting the struggle between good and evil through the captivating story of a young woman's encounter with the sorcerer Comus. 'Arcades' is a shorter, pastoral piece that celebrates the beauty of nature and the joys of a simple life. Together, these compositions offer a glimpse into Milton's early development as a poet and provide valuable insights into the cultural and literary landscape of 17th-century England.
