Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book encapsulates the proceedings of the first-ever international health conference convened by the Committee of Red Cross Societies in April 1919, less than a year after the armistice was signed to end the first World War. The delegates to this conference included eminent scientists and public health experts from France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and the United States. The conference was born out of the realization that the Red Cross had emerged from the war as a powerful force for good and that its mission to alleviate human suffering should continue during peacetime. The main aim of the conference was to secure the support of experts in various scientific fields for the Red Cross's plans to establish an international organization for disease prevention and health promotion. The conference was a significant moment in the evolution of international health cooperation and set the stage for the establishment of the League of Red Cross Societies, later to become the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. It catalyzed the formation of a central organization with a director-general and an advisory council and established the precedent for ongoing collaboration among national Red Cross societies to improve global health and well-being.
