IF children are ever to become good readers they must like reading. They must be introduced as soon as possible to stories and books which they can understand and enjoy.
The Third Reader is distinctly a reading book. By this time the pupil has learned how to read and has begun to reflect and to have wider and more varied interests. He has a love of animals, and is beginning to feel the music and the impulses of good poetry.
