Excerpt from The Apostle Paul: A Sketch of the Development of His Doctrine
There is something greater still in the mind that inspired this mighty work, and of which, in truth, the work itself is only the exhibition and luminous tran scription in the visible order of things. Not only did Paul conquer the pagan world for Jesus Christ; he accomplished a task no less necessary, and per haps even more difficult, in emancipating at the same time infant Christianity from Judaism, under whose guardianship it was in danger of being stifled. Besides removing the centre of gravity of the new Church, by the advance of his mission, from Jerusalem to Antioch, from Antioch to Ephesus, and from Ephesus to Rome, he also succeeded in disengaging from the swaddling bands of Judaism the spiritual and moral principles which constitute Christianity a progressive and universal religion.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. Throughout history, men and women revered as saints and apostles have often been portrayed as static figures, removed from genuine human experience. However, this book takes a fresh look at one of the most influential figures of Christianity: the apostle Paul. Through meticulous analysis of Paulâs writings, this book argues that his ideas evolved over time in the midst of great personal struggle and upheaval. Paulâs journey from persecutor of Christians to becoming their greatest advocate was a gradual process, marked by three key stages. First, he embraced the core tenets of the new faith while still firmly rooted in Jewish tradition. Second, the martyrdom of Stephen forced him to confront the stark differences between the two belief systems. Finally, his conversion on the road to Damascus was the culmination of this internal struggle, leading to a dramatic shift in his thinking. Paulâs unique path from Judaism to Christianity mirrored the larger story of the early Christian communityâs struggle to define its identity apart from its Jewish roots. Through this detailed account of Paulâs life and thought, this book offers not only a vivid portrait of one of historyâs most complex figures, but also a fascinating glimpse into the origins of Christianity.
