In the expression catechetical sermon we have preserved to this very day a meaning of the word catechetical, which carries us back to the early Christian ages: the catechetical sermon is intended not so much for children as for adults, i.e., the Christian people in general. And they should be instructed in the funda mental religious truths as laid down in the Roman Catechism.
