Excerpt from St. Aldhelm, His Life and Times: Lectures Delivered in the Cathedral Church of Bristol, Lent, 1902
During the five years of my residence at St. Paul's, we had in each year two courses of lectures on English Church History, one course on some mediaeval period, and one on the earliest periods of the Church in these islands. The lectures on mediaeval periods were delivered by Dr. Creighton, Dr. Arthur Mason, and others; the five courses on our earliest Church History fell to my lot. They covered (1) the history of the Christian Church in these islands before the coming of St. Augustine, that is, the history of the British and Scotic Churches, Scotic meaning, Irish.
