Sinossi

Excerpt from The Parson's Handbook: Containing Practical Directions Both for Parsons and Others as to the Management of the Parish Church and Its Services According to the English Use

I should like to take this Opportunity of making clear two points, which have been missed by nearly all those who have criticised this book. As these criticisms have been unexpectedly fair and kindly, I feel that the failure to understand my meaning must have been due to an insufficient insistence on these points in the Introduction. Yet I tried to anticipate them on page 42, and indeed in other places also.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the historical and practical aspects of ceremonial practice in the Church of England. The author delves into the rich history of ritual and its evolution within the Church, examining the tensions between tradition and reform, and the complex interplay of theological, political, and social influences that shaped its development. The book examines the specific historical contexts that led to the creation of the Book of Common Prayer and its subsequent revisions, paying close attention to the key documents and debates that defined its ceremonial framework. The author addresses the ongoing controversy surrounding the interpretation of the Ornaments Rubric, which prescribes the use of ornaments and vestments as they existed in the Church of England during the reign of Edward VI. The author defends the importance of maintaining a consistent and coherent ceremonial practice within the Church of England, arguing that such consistency is crucial for fostering a sense of unity and order. The book's insights into the history and practice of ceremonial in the Church of England provide a valuable resource for those interested in understanding the liturgical life of this denomination. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
