Excerpt from God's Choice of Men: A Study of Scripture
Mb. Banoeopt has called Calvin the guide of republics 1 and it is a common remark among historical writers that for the present liberties of the world we are largely in debt to that great theo logian and his disciples. It was a time when the cause of liberty stood in sore need of a champion. The first dawn of the Reformation had brought bright promises of freedom to Europe, but very soon the sky was clouded. The Protestants soon fell to wasting their strength in mutual jealousies and all sorts of Wild extravagances. Luther died. Rome, recovering from her first panic, sets herself to regain the lost ground. Loyola sees visions and organizes his order of Jesuits, that most terrific organ Of Spiritual despotism. In Italy and Spain all troublesome inquiry has been trampled out by the Inquisition. In France the bell of St. Bartholo mew has tolled. In Germany the imperial armies are steadily recapturing the land.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book reevaluates the ancient doctrines of God's election of men, questioning whether the original dogma accurately reflects God's love for all mankind. The author argues that the original statements of the doctrine presented an incomplete view, one that has been misinterpreted by both scholars and laypeople alike. The author aims to replace that obsolete interpretation with a fresh perspective on the biblical account that is better suited to our current understanding of God as a loving and gracious being. To this end, the author explores various examples of God's election of men throughout scripture and examines the ways in which those chosen responded to their election. He concludes that God's choice of certain individuals is not arbitrary or based on partiality, but rather that all people are chosen for specific roles in God's plan for the world, a plan ultimately designed to ensure the greatest good for all.
