Excerpt from A General Formula for the Uniform Flow of Water: In Rivers and Other Channels
The last-named work contained a request that the new American formula suggested in it should be tested by applica tion to European channels with steep slopes. The result of our investigations in response to this request was published in Kutter's Kurzer Bericht, and consisted in the demonstra tion of the inapplicability Of the new American formula to Channels with great descent.
In studying the subject we made continual use Of the gra phie method, and were eventually led to the recognition Of the elements-affecting the flow of water, and thus to the develop ment Of our general formula.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a groundbreaking formula for calculating the flow velocity of water in canals and rivers based on slope, wet perimeter, and hydraulic radius. The author presents a detailed establishment of the formula and provides a supplement that offers a more direct derivation. The formula is then compared against 210 gaugings under various conditions with mostly accurate results. The author also discusses the limitations of the formula and offers a second general formula. Of particular note is an examination of the effects of slope on the formula's coefficient, a topic not addressed by earlier formulas. This book is an excellent resource for understanding hydraulics and for using the formula to accurately calculate the flow of water. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Codice articolo 9781331943716_0
