Excerpt from A Manual on Inhalers, Inhalations and Inhalants: And Guide to Their Discriminating Use in the Treatment of Common Catarrhal Diseases of the Respiratory Tract
I am convinced that a small book on inhalers, inhalations, and inhalants, is needed by general prao titioners of medicine. First, because the text-books for sale are somewhat out of date. Second, because those obtainable do not answer actual requirements, owing to their size and completeness. By this criti cism, I mean particularly that many inhalers are described in detail, which are no longer employed at all - and, indeed, never were used, except perhaps by the inventors - and views are related at length, which were formerly debatable, but now are settled definitely. I am of the opinion, also, that books of this sort are useful only when based upon personal experience, and also provided they express individual convictions, and not simply the opinions of others.
