Riassunto

Explore early 20th‑century entomology and butterfly color mysteries This volume collects practical observations, case studies, and rare illustrations on variation and color in Lepidoptera, including a detailed study of somatic mosaics. Read about how scientists documented two‑sided color patterns, Mendelian hints, and the inheritance of unusual forms.

From technical notes on collecting and illustration to a focused analysis of butterfly color with middle-line divisions, this edition offers both historical context and concrete examples. It combines experimental observations with taxonomic indexing, making it useful for researchers and curious readers alike.

• In‑depth discussion of somatic mosaics in Lepidoptera and how color differences can appear on opposite sides of an insect

• Historical methods for identifying, describing, and classifying aberrations and color forms

• Illustrations and lists that connect specific species to observed variations

• Notes on collecting, publishing practices, and the scientific networks of the era

Ideal for readers of entomology, the history of science, and butterfly enthusiasts who enjoy technical, catalog‑style scholarship with accessible explanations.
