Excerpt from Decision Support Systems and Personal Computing
This paper explores the relationship between Decision Support Systems and Personal Computing. The aim is to clarify the key issues relevant to helping managers make effective use of computer technology in their own Jobs. The paper suggests that there exists a useful distinction between Personal Support (ps) and Organizational Support This distinction is critical for designing a system for effective decision support. The emphasis is placed on Personal Support by discussing development and research issues. Finally, it is suggested that Personal Computing lacks a conceptual base for exploiting the potential of small-scale computer technology and that Personal Support can provide such a framework.
