Excerpt from Lectures on the Origin of the Globe: An Universal Deluge-the Destruction Deluge-the Destruction and Re-Formation of Our Solar System
In combatting, for instance, Opinions, which I advanced, respecting the confiagration and disappearance of stars, and the creation of new ones, he quoted Swedenborg, as his authority for the sentiment, that, when the stars disap peared, their light became veiled by an incrus tation, like an egg shell, and was thus covered for years or ages, until, at length, by the self moving effervescence of the internal fires, that shell was burst asunder and thrown off around the central light in the form of worlds. Thus he evidently disclaimed, altogether, the agency of the Almighty in the origination of those worlds, and was, so far, a practical atheist.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a scientifically and philosophically significant examination of the Book of Genesis, viewed through the lens of modern astronomy and geology. The author contends that the Bible's creation account is not mere allegory and metaphor, but the authentic record of events that can be rationally reconciled with the discoveries of science. It does not attempt to deny the existence or validity of science in favor of religious dogma, but rather to find deeper levels of agreement between them. In examining the origins and destruction of stars, as well as the activity of the nebulae, the author attempts to demonstrate a congruity between natural phenomena and the early chapters of Genesis. Far from undermining faith, the author's goal is to enhance a sense of wonder and appreciation for the profound commonalities between the structured discipline of scientific rationalism and the beauty and majesty of the Word.
