Excerpt from First Lessons In French
Teachers are not supposed to, be obliged to follow all the directions given at the head of each chapter: we leave it to their experience and judgment. The directions show only our own way, the way in which we have been teaching the contents of this book.
Teachers need not confine themselves to the questions given in the book; they may add some, leave some out, or replace others.
If at any time a part of a grammar lesson, on account of its length, shall have been deferred from the foregoing session, it might be advisable for the teacher to treat first an extra subject for conversation or to have the previous subject repeated.
In the explanations of words, we aim only to convey to the mind of the student the meaning of the word limited in most cases to the particular connection in which it is used in our text.
