Excerpt from The Elements of Statics and Dynamics
The science which treats of the action of force on bodies in motion is called Dynamics.
In the more modern system of nomenclature which is gradually gaining general acceptance, the science which treats of the action of force on bodies is called Dynamics, and it has two subdivisions, Statics and Kinetics, treating of the action of forces on bodies which are at rest and in motion respectively.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a guide to statics, the science of forces acting on stationary bodies. It is a branch of mechanics that enables us to predict how objects will behave under given forces. Statics has its roots in the 16th century when scientists like Galileo and Stevinus first began to explore the laws of motion. The author provides an accessible introduction to this fundamental scientific discipline. The book begins by introducing the basic concepts of force, mass, and equilibrium, and then goes on to explore more advanced topics such as the parallelogram of forces and the polygon of forces. The book is clearly written and well illustrated, making it an excellent resource for students of physics and engineering, as well as anyone with an interest in the science of statics.
