Excerpt from Application of the Use-Definition Chaining to Attribute-Flow Analysis
Use-definition chaining is a well known pragmatic technique for solving various classes of data flow analysis problems. In this paper we compare this method with the standard flow graph method for solving such problems and show that when applied to the class of attribute flow analysis problems (which includes constant propagation, type analysis, etc.) both methods yield the same solution, but that the use definition method is generally much more efficient than the flow graph method. We also describe and analyze a possible adaptation of the use-definition technique to inter.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book examines a specific approach to data flow analysis known as use-definition chaining. The author compares use-definition chaining to the well-known flow graph method for solving data flow problems and argues that the use-definition method is often a more efficient and effective approach, particularly in the context of attribute flow analysis. In the latter half of the book, the author extends this method to the analysis of interprocedural attribute flow, an area where it offers particular advantages over other methods. Overall, this book demonstrates the importance of use-definition chaining as a pragmatic and conceptually rich technique for data flow analysis.
