Contenu de cette L'oeuvre poétique de Calümaque ne éditi0flo nous est parvenue que pour une petite part, et non la plus importante l'essentiel disparu. Aussi le public cultivé, en dehors des helléni_stes de profession, retient à peine le nom du Cyrénéen. Cela est vrai surtout pour le public français si en Allemagne le seul un siècle a vu paraître trois éditions importantes de Callimaque il n'y a eu en France, depuis la Renais sance, aucune publication satisfaisante de ce texte'. C'était une raison déjà de lui donner une place dans la présente collection. D'ailleurs des fragments de l'oeuvre, bien courts encore, mais non sans caractère et sans im portance, ont reparu au jour dans ces dernières années. Publiés dans des recueils spéciaux, ils sont peu accessibles au grand public. On les trouvera rassemblés dans ce pé tit volume qui, par là tout au moins, ne sera pas inutile. Nous donnons ici, en texte et en traduction 1° les six Hymnes.
