As the esteemed author passed away from earth to heaven, while the work was yet in the hands of the printer, we have added an Appendix, containing the funeral discourse by the Rev. Dr. Eddy, and/the memorial services subsequently had in the Clark Street Methodist Episcopal Church, Chicago. This last feature of the work will be peculiarly accept able to the friends of the deceased at this time; and will also be of permanent interest, as it enables us to embody much of his personal history, together with graphic delineations of his character.
