Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book by Venanzio Monaldini is an English version of Giuseppe Vasi's original work, a guide to the monuments and works of art of Rome, revised by Professor Nibby. Vasi's text is accompanied by descriptions of etruscan and egyptian museums as well as the Pontine marshes. Interspersed with this updated information, the text also includes a variety of discursive essays on Roman history such as the Temple of Peace built by Vespasian, a journey to Horace's country home, as well as his views on the ruins of the monuments of ancient Rome. Vasi and Nibby lament the destruction of many monuments by time and neglect but find solace in the fact that thousands of others are being preserved and restored for future generations. This book stands as a testament to the enduring fascination with Rome's rich history and culture, and the importance of preserving its legacy for future generations.
