Excerpt from Storage Battery Manual: Including Principles of Storage Battery Construction and Design, With the Application of Storage Batteries to the Naval Service
Owing to the very rapidly increasing application of storage battery engi neering to our naval service, and believing that there exists a growing need for a modern text-book on this subject, effort has therefore been put forth in the production of this volume with the hope that it will prove of assistance in the instruction of our personnel in this very important and interesting branch of electrical engineering. Special effort has also been put forth in an attempt to present the subject matter of the text in as simple and as practical a manner as possible and with the use of only those involved formula and mathematical expressions as have been deemed absolutely essential in developing and supporting the text. Great pains have also been taken in composing and selecting the various drawings and photographs used for clearly illustrating the text.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a detailed exploration of the fascinating world of storage battery engineering, focusing specifically on its application to naval service. Tracing the history of this crucial technology back to the discovery of the voltaic couple by Alessandro Volta in 1790, the author delves into the groundbreaking work of Gaston PlantÃÂ , who first demonstrated the reversibility of the voltaic couple, paving the way for the modern storage battery. The book's rich narrative seamlessly weaves together the mechanical, electrical, and chemical principles underpinning storage battery technology. Readers will gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental reactions occurring within the battery during charge and discharge, alongside insights into the design and construction of its various components, including grids, separators, and electrolyte. The author skillfully bridges the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications, providing valuable guidance for both those involved in the design and operation of naval storage battery systems. This comprehensive resource is essential for anyone seeking a nuanced understanding of the historical development, intricate workings, and practical applications of this vital energy storage technology. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
